COLORADO ANIMAL RESCUE EXPRESS ACCOMPLISHMENTS
6/20/2007 – 6/15/2010
Transport: C.A.R.E. has moved over 6,700 domestic pets to safety from high kill shelters. Just since January 1st, 986 dog and 65 cats have travelled on our vans. We will most likely transport or finance the transport of close to 2,000 homeless animals in 2010.
Jake's Fund: Started in October 2008 in memory of a yellow lab that passed away from Heartworm treatment complications, Jake's Fund has helped 421 animals in shelters and rescues with medical services that both enhanced (in some case, SAVED) their lives and made them ready for adoptions. Services include spay/neuter, Heartworm treatment, surgical and topical procedures, and helping strays injured on the streets or victims of abuse. So far in 2010, we have contributed to the care of 143 animals.
Spay/Neuter Programs: As a transport provider, part of our responsibility includes educating and working with the areas that are always requesting release of surplus animals. We designed a spay/neuter educational brochure, Help End the Pet Overpopulation Crisis, and have distributed over 4,500 copies. C.A.R.E. is implementing and sponsoring several spay/neuter events in rural or low income communities. As a result of C.A.R.E.’s efforts in 2009, 193 animals were sterilized and will no longer be contributing to the pet overpopulation epidemic. So far in 2010, we have arranged and funded programs that have sterilized another 188 animals. We recently kicked off our first spay/neuter program to help the animals on an Indian reservation in Gallup, New Mexico, where roaming dogs and cats are reproducing at an alarming rate. For third quarter, we hope to implement and fund spay/neuter projects at a military base in Kansas and in some very rural towns in Oklahoma where a vet would travel in with a mobile unit.
Food and Supplies Distribution: Through the generosity of pet food distributors, pet food manufacturers, King Soopers, and Petco, C.A.R.E. has distributed over 53,000 pounds of food to shelters and rescues in Colorado and neighboring states.
Resource to shelters and rescues: Through transport, Jake's Fund, spay/neuter programs, food and supplies distribution, we also provide educational materials, help when we can with their fundraising efforts, and contribute to specific shortfalls they may be experiencing.
