I recently had the pleasure to visit with Sasha; now named Layla. If you remember, she's one of the puppies that Judy fostered for us from Wichita. She survived parvo after giving us quite a scare.
She has blossomed into a beautiful young lady. Smaller then I would have thought at only 43 lbs. She is loved and adored by her new family. Had to send you these updated pictures so you can share in the joy with me.

Sweetie was our Dalmation mix that Beth White (Dalmatian Rescue)helped us with. When we first encountered her she had been found pregnant and in need of help. A kind person helped her through birthing 10 pups, but then took a picture to the vet because they didn't know what was wrong with her! It happened to be our vet so she called me and told me it was a rectal prolapse and she needed help right away! I got the people on the phone told them to go get her and take her to the vet immediately because she needed surgery. They told me they named her Sweetie because she was such a sweet dog, but they couldn't afford surgery for her and really she wasn't their dog. I told them not to worry, we would take care of it somehow, just bring her in. Well.......this is Sweetie in her new home 2 surgeries and about $700 later! She is doing well and loved by all in this home! Actually these ladies were her foster home and they opted to adopt her! Lucky Sweetie!!

DUTCHESS AND DODGER TRAVELED ON A C.A.R.E. TRANSPORT TO COLORADO ON DECEMBER 4, 2008. Mariah's Promise took these beautiful Pit Bulls into rescue and they ended up in a wonderful home together. Here's their happy story...
Duchess and Dodger have been a wonderful addition to our family. They are fun, energetic and very loving! We started out looking for a bulldog or bulldog mix. That is how we found Duchess on Petfinder.com. She was listed as an American Bulldog / American Staffordshire Terrier mix. I kept looking but would go back to her picture time after time. I contacted Toni from Mariah's Promise several times, and finally, I just had to have Duchess. Initially, I was thinking about only one dog, but Toni told me that Duchess and Dodger had become friends on their trip from Missouri to Colorado. So . . . when my son and I traveled to Divide, Colorado (my husband is a Marine deployed in Iraq and will be home sometime in March) and met Duchess, we also met Dodger. They seemed the perfect fit, so we can home with two dogs. My son loves Dodger best because Dodger is very mellow, doesn't jump up on him, and just wants to be loved all the time. Duchess is my shadow. If I get up to go get a drink of water, she is right there beside me. When I sit down, she either sits or lays down beside me and puts her head in my lap. She is my 55 pound snuggle bug!! LOL! Dodger sleeps on the couch (he likes his peace and quiet and Duchess snores), but Duchess has to be sleeping right next to me, touching me. If I would let her, she would be under the covers too. With my husband gone this winter, she has kept me warm, laying with her back to my back. Even though we have had a few adjustments and learning periods, I am so thankful that I didn't listen to the "nay-sayers" and decided to go ahead a get a couple of "pit bulls." They are absolutely wonderful dogs, and I look forward to having them for many, many years to come!
Diamond, a gorgeous, sweet, deaf, 1 year old, white husky came to C.A.R.E. from Kansas. Her previous human did not realize this sweet girl was deaf when she got her from a breeder. Although very much loved by the family, Diamond had special needs they just could not meet at this time. In steps Brittany Springer! Brittany lives in Fort Collins and couldn't wait to adopt Diamond. She set up appointments with special trainers to help learn techniques to support a deaf dog. Brittany connected with a local special needs dog group for sharing and support. She personally researched the many aspects of having a special needs dog. She even had Christmas presents waiting under the tree for Diamond! Her last dog, who sadly died very young, was also a special needs dog. I have to say Brittany is one of the most responsible, intelligent, caring, kind-hearted young woman I have ever met! I also had the pleasure of meeting her parents. I can see why she turned out the way she did! Kind, loving, supportive family. They have a great big yard for where Diamond can romp and play with their 2 other family dogs. What a great match, a sweetheart of a dog and her new sweet human, Brittany. Thank you to C.A.R.E. and Brittany for giving Diamond her wonderful new family and life!

Misty
Misty was given up by her owner in November after her owner lost her home and went through a divorce. Her owner was also unable to provide adequate vet care to Misty, and Misty suffered from hypothyroid, being severely obeses, and nerve damage to her back legs following a car accident at a young age. Misty, now age four, had extreme difficulty walking and was scared to death of other people. CARE lovingly transported Misty for Mile High Weim Rescue (MHWR), despite Misty's issues. It took the volunteers of CARE nearly 30 minutes to get Misty out of the crate when she arrived in Colorado. Misty is currently in a foster home in Denver, CO for MHWR, where she is receiving much-needed TLC, medication for her thyroid condition, and various therapy for her legs. Misty is able to walk better and has lost an incredible 15 pounds!
Misty is doing wonderfully!! We have her going to CRCG for water therapy, massage and acupuncture. Her foster home is feeding her a raw diet and giving her daily massages. Misty used to have no control of her bowels, but in 6 weeks of massage, now realizes she has to go and asks to go outside! Misty is doing wonderfully with other dogs and cats, and has perked-up, and lost nearly 15 pounds!! She's on thyroid medicine and some herbs to control the swelling. I think she feels better and she looks better too! We know someone will adopt this wonderful girl!!
Ellie
We wanted to thank CARE again for bringing our sweet bloodhound, Ellie Mae, to us last February.As you can see from the pictures, she has adjusted well and has made our home hers.She brings lots of love and joy to us every day.We understand that there are so many others out there like Ellie who need to be transported to a loving home and want to continue to help however we can.Enclosed is our donation to help CARE continue your mission.Thanks again for all that you do!!!!

Barkley
Dee, the foster mom to the Bouvier, Barkley, wrote the following note.
Barkley was transported on a C.A.R.E. van from Kansas to Colorado, spent the night in a fancy hotel, and travelled the next day with his foster mom Dee and two Griff sisters, to Phoenix. He was just adopted to a wonderful family in time for Santa to visit!
Barkley was listed on the Petfinder site. When I saw the photo there was no question he had to be rescued. My foster coordinator Dagi and The American Bouvier Rescue League came to his aid. The amazing coordination assistance of C.A.R.E. - especially Linda with all her knowledge and Peggy at the City of Emporia Animal Shelter - helped to orchestrate this amazing rescue of over 1,000 miles so Barkley could have a safe and happy life.
Barkley arrived in Phoenix and was groomed and vetted. He immediately blossomed into the happy puppy he deserved to be. He is extremely smart and wants so desperately to please and just wants to be next to you - a perfect boy if I ever saw! I didn't get to keep him very long :(
He is now in a home with two other Bouviers - and they love him so very very much! I could not have asked for a better home for him. Barkley came with long hair and a sad story, got a hair cut, ran like the wind in my yard playing ball and now plays with his new brother and sister and loves the view from his beautiful new home! He is loved!! This is the reason we rescue these kids, this is how the story should end, the life they deserve.

Dawn from Colorado Great Pyrenees Rescue writes: This is my BOY, the first boy I ever pulled from the Springfield shelter and the reason I can't let any Pyrs stay there! Of course I would like to take them all, but I can't, but I CAN do what I can. No real story needed the pictures say it all. The first picture is a few days after we got Trace, now Yetti, and the second, the one I took yesterday of him and his mommy.
Penny Lane
Penny Lane is our latest little angel. She was one of six dogs Sue of Ozark Haven Rescue in southern Missouri asked us to take because they were all in peril. How could Ridgeback Rescue resist? Although she may have only a smidgen of ridgeback in her, it doesn't matter in the least; we'll find her a perfect home.
Penny Lane is a deightful sprite, barely a year old, constantly dancing , smiling and emitting little warbles of joy. With 30 pounds of pure energy, she is the new social director in our pack of fosters, organizing games of tag, hide 'n seek, and fetching until everyone drops of exhaustion. The picture shows that she just had her large double back leg dew claws removed.
Elmo
Elmo came to Colorado Beagle Rescue via CARE in early 2008. He was such a scared little guy and cowered behind any object he could find being so afraid he was going to be hurt. He had leg surgery before coming to Colorado and was in bad shape upon his arrival. Elmo had to be taken to the ER by his foster parents since his stitching was coming undone. He was such a brave boy and seemed to know that he was getting the necessary care he needed. He recovered nicely and quickly came to know that he was in a good place where there was love and kindness. The parents of his foster dad met Elmo and fell in love with him. They have an older lab that needed a companion and Elmo filled that need. He was soon adopted and is now a confident and loving dog living the good life in Colorado. Without the dedication of CARE, Elmo would have never made it and we are grateful to them for giving him a second chance at life.
Glory
We heard about Glory in April from the Collie Rescue Foundation, of which we are a proud member. One of the CRF's board members learned of a smooth collie at an Iowa shelter and that she could be euthanized any day due to space considerations. The dog was said to be 10 years old, emaciated and depressed. Even though we have never gotten a dog from as far east as Iowa before, we raised our hand. Something about this dog's plaintive expression on her shelter photo touched us. And -- frankly - we figured, 'If we can help, we should step up to the plate and do it.' So Iowa it was. We committed to helping this dog.
A wonderful woman named Jeanie Driscoll, who is a member of the Central Iowa Collie Club, went to the shelter and got Glory on our behalf and fostered this 'smoothie' at her home for the next two weeks. Jeanie gave us the first glimpse of who this dog was. Jeanie reported that Glory was shy and sweet, got along fine with her dogs, and bonded quickly with whoever was kind to her. Glory was not an elderly dog, but only 3 or 4. Because she was so thin and had bad teeth, the shelter had mistaken her for 10. Jeanie saw to it that Glory had a dental, was vaccinated, tested for heartworm, the works. She had been a stray for two months in the harsh Iowa winter before landing at the shelter, where she stayed for one month. Apparently, no one wanted to adopt a 'senior' dog from the shelter either.
After being at Jeanie's home Glory's next step was to get transported to us via Colorado Animal Rescue Express (CARE), led by the truly amazing team of Linda Fox and Lisa Mendelsberg. On May 17 Glory joined 14 other dogs and one cat who faced death at shelters in states east of here to come to private rescues like ours in Colorado.
Griffin/Rocky
Griffin, now Rocky, came from Holton KS on a C.A.R.E. Transport to the Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF).
Soon afterwards, a family who visits Aspen regularly from California met Rocky at our 1st ARF Aspen Dog Jog. Turns out they had been looking for a Bernese Mountain Dog mix and after spending much time with him over the next few days, they realized what a special dog he was and decided to fly him back to California with them and make him a part of the family.
Rocky continues to do well and is enjoying walks on the beach and playing with 3 kids!
Priya
Priya was one of the first dogs that caught my eye before I started working for the Colorado Pit Bull Rescue group. Priya (Indian for “darling”) was abandoned, tied up in a small area to be flea food. She was infested with fleas.When Priya was with us at Colorado Pit Bull Rescue, there was no way she would have made it through without the care and compassion of Eaton Animal Den. They gave her medicated baths everyday for 3 months, on top of the vetting she desperately needed, to get healthy again.Priya is a dog that would have been "thrown away" by a shelter or by others because she is a Pit Bull, and she was damaged goods. Funny, I was one of people that sponsored her to get the vetting she needed, I never thought that of her. I knew she deserved the chance to get the home she deserved because she was a special dog, that was worthy of the effort. I am glad to see I wasn't the only one. There's more Priya's out there that deserve the chance to have a great home.
Rocky
He was pulled from the shelter literally 1 hour before he was to be put to sleep simply because the shelter had no more space. A kind lady opened up her home and fostered Rocky. Last Saturday, CARE transported Rocky to Denver and one week later Rocky was adopted into a wonderful, loving home. Rocky is a 5 year old gray, neutered male Weimaraner. He is the most kind, gentle, happy weim we've ever seen - very well-adjusted and so grateful to have a second chance!! - - - Darci Kunard, Mile High Weimaraner Rescue
